Mr. Farmer has yet to cultivate the field next to the barndo. I keep waiting for him to turn under the winter wheat crop and plant this year’s crop.
Hoping for corn…
Tons of chicken shit was spread across the field and winter wheat was planted late last fall. It was sprayed to die weeks ago and I’ve looked at brown now for what seems like forever. ASNns last year should mean corn this year — at least that’s what I’m hoping for.
The Derby is over.
Typically here in southern Indiana, the running of the Derby — the 1st Saturday in May each year — is the marker for gardening. Hard frosts are a thing of the past and plants are safe to be in the ground.
I guess farming is different than gardening… not that I know much about it. Otherwise, I’d have seen (and heard) the big machinery with Mr. Farmer out there doing his thing.
